Malpe Beach, located 6 kms to the west of Udupi, is a silvery beach that offers a breathtaking view of the sea. The peaceful surroundings with endless stretch of golden sand, graciously swaying palm trees and the clear blue sky makes this beach a favourite holiday spot. An important port and fishing harbor along the Karnataka coast, Malpe is situated at the mouth of the Udyavara river.

Malpe is an important port of the Karnataka coast. The river is navigable to small cargo boats for about ten kms during high tide. The place has fascinating natural scenic view. It has been a centre of commercial activities for a long time, and one plus point is that it is a natural port.

Known for its charming and attractive golden brown sand and turquoise blue waters, the beach is lined with palm trees and the blue skies above add to the scene, providing a perfect picture.

This natural splendour with stretch of golden sand, palm trees, blue sky and the flow of the sea, attracts a large number of tourists. During high tides, one can also catch a boat ride for almost 10 kilometers in the estuary. Tourists can swim in these calm waters without the fear of drowning as the sea is calm.

Malpe is a perfect picnic place with its silvery, virgin beach. St. Mary's Island is nearby attraction. The beach also hosts Udupi Utsav, a two-day beach festival.

Daria -Bahadurgad is the northernmost island here is another beautiful island across the bay and Kari-Illada-Kallu is the southernmost island in the region. Daria-Gadara-Kalluthe is situated between the northern most and the southernmost islands and the fourth island that you need watch out for is St. Mary’s Island, which is also called Thonse Paar.

The other attractions of Malpe are Temple of Balarama and an old tile factory, constructed by the Basel Mission. It is the oldest tile factory of the district set up by the Basel Mission. There is also a temple of Vadabhandeshwara here.
