Opened in 1921, to commemorate the visit of His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales to Lucknow, it is one of the well maintained and most popular zoos in India. The Zoo has been transformed in recent years into a park of gardens, museum and wonderful natural habitats for animals. For kids, the Lucknow zoo is a place where education and conservation combine for an unforgettable learning experience. The zoo is managed by the Zoo Advisory Committee with Forest Secretary to the Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. The Zoo regularly organises events to pull in the crowds to promote the adoption schemes for the animals. Some of the animals found here are Royal Bengal Tiger, Lion, Various spieces of deer, Elephants, Sloth bears, Panthers, Himalayan bears, Monkeys, Giraffe, Zebra, Wolfs, Hynas, Common Otters, Indian Rhinoceros etc. The birds found here are Hill Mynahs, Giant Squirrels, Great Pied Hornbill, Golden Pheasant, Silver Pheasant, Various types of parrots and pigeons, Peacock etc. Visiting Time February - April 8.30 am to 5.30 pm; May - July 8.30 am to 6.00 pm; August - October 8.30 am to 5.30 pm; November - January 8.30 am to 5.00 pm. Entrance Fee ZOO remains closed on Monday and on Holi holiday. Attractions In addition to all these wildlife, one can view Fish House, Owl House, crocodiles pond and Nature Interpretation Center. Rs. 05.00/- The zoo has a toy train with 3 coaches and a British Era Vintage Train. The toy train starts near the main gate of zoo. Established in 1969, it runs daily . The length of the train track is about 1.5 km. Mostly liked by children it moves slowly and one can enjoy almost all the wildlife and places of zoo during its round. 1924. It was used for transportation of timber between Ikma and Chauraha
