How to Reach
Air :
Mumbai (100kms) is the nearest airport.
Rail : The nearest railhead is at Neral (21
kms, 2 hours ride to Matheran) from where a tiny toy train waits to take
people to Matheran. The narrow-gauge railway from Neral was opened
in 1907. Matheran is 110 km. away from Mumbai on Mumbai-Pune rail
route. Neral is 87 km from Mumbai.
Road : It is accessible by road from Mumbai
via Karjat and Neral and takes about two and a half hours to reach. No
vehicles are allowed inside Matheran and ponies are the favoured means
of transport. Taxis are available from Neral (21 km) to Dastoori car park,
3 kms from Matheran. Park vehicles here. Parking fee is Rs.30 per day,
entry Rs.20 per head. From there, one could take a hike or hire a pony
to Matheran.
