MAIN HOW TO REACH HOTELS CONTACTS

Lying 1-km ahead of the union of the Arabian Sea and the Mandovi River, Miramar Beach is situated about 3 kms from Panaji, the capital of Goa. Also known as the 'Gaper Dias' Beach, it is one of the most popular beaches in India. In Portuguese, 'Miramar' stands for viewing the sea.

Small, but always crowded with locals and tourists, especially on Sunday evenings, this golden beach of soft sand, stretches southward 2 km and ends at the base of the Cabo Raj Bhavan hillock, where the official residence of the Goa Governor is located. The beach offers a great view of the Raj Bhavan which is illuminated at night.

Framed by black rocks lined with coconut palms, Miramar beach's distinctive feature is its location. Due to its closeness to the city of Panaji, the beach has become very commercialized. A large number of hotels and home stays also makes Miramar a popular beach. The famous Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Dayanand Bandodkar Samadhi, the memorial of Goa's first Chief Minister, Dayanad Bandodkar are also situated near Miramar.

The beach offers a view of the stunning sunset over the Arabian Sea. From here one can get a panoramic view of Fort Aguada just across the Mandovi River. This splendid beach is ideal for evening walks.

Beach Activities

Here, visitors can find all facilities for shopping and recreation. Fishing, Sunbathing, Parasailing and Shopping are some of the popular beachside activities in Miramar. The beach coast is lined with shops and restaurants. Vendors sells many variety of decorative items mainly conch shell, hats etc.

The crowds here make Miramar not an ideal place for swimming. As there is a strong undercurrent here, it is not safe also. Another popular activity in Miramar beach is bird watching, since many migratory birds including gulls and plovers come to the beach during November to March.
