Visits to Yumthang require permits and are organised by Gangtok-based tour operators. Foreigners must obtain Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit which can be obtained from all Indian missions, Tourism Office, New Delhi, Sikkim Tourism Office, Kolkata and Sikkim Tourism Office. To reach this vallery go from Gangtok to Lachung (130Km) which is 5hrs journey. Stay at Lachung, a picturesque postcard village then proceed 26km where one can reach in yumthang valley. Lachung to this valley offers magnificent view of lush green mountains, rivers and many water falls on the way. To reach Gangtok, Air : Bagdogra (125 km) is the nearest airport. From airport to Gangtok is 4 hours by road. Also from here Sikkim helicopter Service runs daily 30 mts flights to Gangtok. Rail: New Jalpaiguri/Siliguir (120 km/ 4 hrs) is the nearest railhead which are well connected to Kolkata, Delhi and other major Indian cities. From here one can hire a taxi or jeep to reach Gangtok.
