The Vellore city of Tamilnadu state was once famous for its Vellore Christian Medical College, now has became a pilgrim center due to its Sri Lakshmi Narayani Temple.

Also known as Sripuram Golden Temple,  it was inaugurated on 24th August 2007 and since then, the temple has been attracting a lot of tourists every year. Around 25,000 people visit the temple everyday.

It is considered as the world’s largest golden temple dedicated to goddess Mahalakshmi (the goddess of wealth).

A visit to this temple gives its visitors a spiritual awakening of the cultural heritage of India and Hinduism.

Also it's neat and clean ambience and  the architectural grandeur -  a new concept of Hindu temple architecture compared to the other south Indian Hindu temples etc makes it  worth a visit.

Located on the Thirumalaikodi foot hill in a 100 acres of land, this golden temple is made of more than 1.5 tone of pure gold. Based Om Sakthi Narayani Siddar Peedam Charitable Trust, it is headed by spiritual leader Narayani Amma. Spread out over 55,000 square feet, it's construction began in 2000 and was completed in a short span of 7 years at a cost of Rs.300 crores (Rs.3 billion). More than 400 gold and coppersmiths from the Tirupathi Thirumala Devasthanam are worked on this temple. Materials such as gold bars were brought through RBI in a transparent manner.

It is beautifully constructed temple situated in the centre of exquisitely laid out gardens, that can only be accessed by going through a star shaped walkway, which has the messages from the Vedas and flowering plants and shrubs on both sides. The courtyard of the temple has more than one lakh trees and plants.

Designed in the shape of sri chakra, it's unique feature is that the interior and exterior of Vimanam and Ardha Mandapam have been laid with gold sheets and plates. Twelve layers of gold foils have been pasted on copper sheets embossed with the designs of Gods and fixed on the walls.
