Ramgarh is a tiny and serene hill station in Nainital district in Kumaon Division of Uttarakhand state.  Located at a distance of 26 km away from Nainital, it is on Bhowali - Mukteshwar Road. Perched at an altitude of 1789 m above the sea level in the Kumaon hills, it attract the travelers towards it.

It is also known as 'Fruit Bowl of Kumaon' and is indeed a fruit bowl because it boasts orchards of apples, apricots, peach and pears. The first thing that strikes the traveler visiting Ramgarh is its serene atmosphere and the picturesque green surroundings. It was once the cantonment of the English Army and Britishers used to spend their leisure time in the serene environment of Ramgarh. At Ramgarh, one can see ancestral buildings, convert as inspection bungalows and temporary stay palaces for officers, dating back to British colonial times.

Many poets and writers spend here at Ramgarh to develop their creative abilities. The famous Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore stayed here and planned to set up his university Shantiniketan at Ramgarh.  He had composed some of his compositions at Ramgarh too. The famous social worker Narain Swami had established his ashram over here.  The renowned poetess Mahadevi Verma lived in Ramgarh at Malla and her home is now converted into a library of her works. It is a place worth to visit. All India Research Center for Animal Treatment is also situated here.

Ramgarh is divided in to two parts Malla and Talla. Malla is located on elevation and Talla is located downhill. Eventhough, this hill resort t has less sight seeings than other hillstations, its scenery view attracts a large number of visitors. It offers panoramic view of the snow capped Himalayan ranges that lie beyond it. At Ramgarh, one should not miss the spectacular Sunrise and Sunset.

Besides scenic view, bird watching and nature walks are other ways to enjoy at Ramgarh. Angling is an added attraction at Ramgarh but one should take a permit from the Forest Department Office. From Ramgarh, one can go on excursion tours to Nainital, Mukteshwar, Bhimtal, Ranikhet and Almora. These places are within a range of 25 km from Ramgarh.
